HTML Help: Reciprocal Link Wait
If you link to a site and ask them for a link trade, how long would you wait before taking the link down if they don't reciprocate? There are three ways to look at it. One, you can wait for a period of time and take the link down if they don't reciprocate. If I looked at it that way I'd wait at least 15 days.
Most people are busy, and many run their website in their spare time and may not check their site stuff more than once a week or even less. By waiting, you're not losing anything with the link in place and you'd be giving them a fair chance to reciprocate.
A better way to look at in my opinion, is that if I'm seeking to trade links, I must think the site has something of value to offer my visitors. If that is true, there is value to me to be able to offer that link to them.
If we look at providing quality links as another part of our content—content that is in place for the benefit of our website visitors—then keeping the link in place whether it gets reciprocated or not still adds value to our website.
Then there's a third way to look at it . . . reciprocal links don't count near as much toward link popularity and higher search engine rankings as high quality one-way links. Since we know that is true, why are you spending valuable time chasing after reciprocal links when you can create more valuable one-way links faster and with less aggravation?
Seriously, get Industrial Strength Link Building and discover how to build link popularity the right way.
