Meta Tag Generator

Meta tags are used by search engines for various purposes. The description meta tag is the text many search engines use in describing your site in search results. To a very small degree, they also help to catalog your content and rank your site. Many search engine experts will tell you search engines no longer read the meta tags, but I have tested it and that's not true with all search engines—most of them, yes—but not all. It doesn't hurt to use them, and may help with a few, so why not use them?

The free meta tag generator below will help you get them formatted right. Who loves ya, baby! The tags generated should be placed into the <HEAD> section of your page, just below the title tag set.

Description

The description is displayed at some search engines as the description they offer for your site in search results. It should read like normal sentences and include your top one or two keywords. Do not use hype tactics like ALL CAPS or excessive exclamation marks!!! Keep it short and punchy, it's your advertisement to convince people to come to your web site. It should be less than 120 characters.

Keywords

Keywords used to help determine the relevancy of your site to the search query. Because of abuse by webmasters, they do little now. However, there is a good reason for using them which I won't reveal here, you'll have to purchase SEOS if you want all my secrets.

Should you choose not to use them leave this section blank. If you do use them, separate each keyword and keyword phrase with a comma. Example: dogs, dog breeders, kennel clubs. Keep it under 762 characters including commas and spaces. Try to keep it under 20 keywords and/or keyword phrases. Do not repeat any word more than three times!

Revisit Interval

For the search engines that use this tag, if any still do, it indicates how often their spider should come back to re-index your page. You can express the value in days, weeks, or months. Don't make it less than 30 days. Format it like this: 30 days, or 8 weeks, or 3 months.
