HTML Help: Getting Framed Sites Indexed

Is it true search engines can't index sites with frames?
It's always been difficult to get sites indexed that use frames. Whether it's because the search engines can't index framed content or because they choose not to is up for debate.

Search engines strive to provide searchers with links to useful content. Framed content is often difficult to use outside of their intended frameset. For the search engine, there is little benefit to include sites that might not work well outside of their frames. After all, no matter what the topic, there are always plenty of sites to choose from that do not use frames.

Still, they will index the <noframes> content, but that doesn't mean your site will be fully indexed.

Search engines have a predetermined amount of time on each website during any given visit. It takes more time to navigate framesets, and if the spider has difficulty navigating the frameset then even more time gets wasted. It just won't be able to index as much as it would if you didn't use frames. It will have the same problems on every visit.

The bottom line is, if you want your site included in the search engines you do not want to use frames. If you insist on using frames, the best you can do is to include <noframes> content and an XML Sitemap.
