HTML DL Tag Tutorial

Browser Support

Internet Explorer Firefox Opera Safari Chrome

The dl tag (definition list) is the only HTML list that doesn't involved bullets or alphanumeric markers.

A definition list has two elements in addition to the <dl> element. There's the <dt> element (definition term) to be defined; and the <dd> element (definition description) which provides the description for the definition term.

Here's a simple definition list for a few of my products. I've linked the definition term to the product page in case you want to learn more about it:

Industrial Strength Link Building
This is a 142-page ebook I wrote about building links to your website to increase its link popularity.
SEO for YOU

Free Reports Goldmine

Neat looking list, eh? You can use CSS to give a definition list many different looks. Experiment until you find something you like, it's easy and fun!

Here's the code for that definition list:

<dl>
<dt>Industrial Strength Link Building</dt>
<dd>Description for Link Building Ebook</dd>
<dt>SEO for YOU</dt>
<dd>Description for the SEO Ebook</dd>
<dt>Public Domain Profits</dt>
<dd>Description for Public Domain Profits</dd>
<dt>Free Reports Goldmine</dt>
<dd>Description for Free Reports Goldmine</dd>
</dl>
