HTML Title Tutorial

Browser Support

Internet Explorer Firefox Opera Safari Chrome

The title tag sets the title text for the page. It appears in the title bar of the browser (the uppermost portion of the browser).

If you look to the top of your browser you should see the title of this page. You should see the browser logo followed by "HTML Title" and then the Browser Name in most browsers.

The title element is required in all HTML/XHTML documents. The title also:

  • Provides the title for the page when it is added to someone's favorites or bookmarks, unless they change it themselves.
  • Displays a title for the page in search-engine results. This is the "clickable" part of a web page's search engine listing.

The title is the first element coded within the HEAD section of the web page source code. Here's the example from this page:

<title>HTML Title</title>
